Lumicom
& WEEE - what it means to you
The WEEE (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment) Directive
is expected to come in to force in Spring 2007. After this date,
you will only be allowed to dispose of electrical equipment
through a registered recycler. This applies not only to lighting
equipment but also Hi-fi equipment, mobile phones, domestic
appliances etc. |

To
minimise the cost to their customers, most manufacturers are
joining industry recycling schemes. In this way, there will
be a small charge added to the cost of the equipment when it
is sold, but disposal will be free at the end of life. This
charge will only be added to the cost of the equipment once
the Directive is in force. |

For
lighting, the two biggest schemes are Lumicom for disposing
of luminaires and Recolight for disposing of lamps. Crescent
is pleased to be a member of both schemes.
Note that if you buy equipment from a manufacturer who is not
part of a recycling scheme, you will have to organise and pay
for the disposal of the equipment yourself. |
