Happy New [International] Year [Of Light]!
Posted on: 08/01/2015
The English weather is doing its best to dampen our spirits on this grey and drizzly day, but here in the Crescent office spirits are high. And that’s not just because we haven’t been subjected to a single Christmas song all week… It’s a new year and 2015 is here, which means that it’s officially the International Year of Light and Light-based Technologies (IYL 2015)!
The UN proclaimed that this International Year would focus on Light Science, a move supported by UNESCO and backed by scientific bodies all over the world. The Year of Light is essentially an initiative designed to raise ‘global awareness about how light-based technologies promote sustainable development and provide solutions to global challenges in energy, education, agriculture and health’.
It appears that it’s time for lighting to step to the forefront and engage with the numerous challenges facing us all on a planet that’s more burdened than a belt after Christmas lunch.
